A securities account, in Swedish VP-konto, is an account with the central securities depository Euroclear Sweden. An owner's securities in CSD-registered companies are registered there electronically. The name comes from VPC, Euroclear's former name. This has replaced physical share certificates.
VP accounts are only used for CSD-registered companies. In non-CSD companies, most Swedish limited companies, ownership is shown in the company's own share ledger. For these shares, an equity account can give the owner an overview.
