A settlement note is a document confirming a share transaction between buyer and seller. It states the number of shares, price, date and parties, and serves as supporting documentation in a transfer of shares.
The note matters for declaring gains or losses and for calculating the average acquisition cost. In NVR, settlement notes are generated automatically when you record a change of ownership, and the share ledger is updated at the same time.
