A broker (Swedish: mäklare) buys and sells goods or securities on behalf of someone else, without owning them, and is often paid a commission. Securities trading takes place mainly on the secondary market, and after a trade the client normally receives a settlement note.
A broker or adviser can also help with trading in unlisted shares. Once the shares have changed hands, the new owner must be entered in the share ledger so that the ownership picture is correct.

A security is a document or right that gives its holder value, usually one that can be converted into money.
