The board of directors (Swedish: styrelse) is the body elected by the general meeting and responsible for the company's organization and management. It represents the company. In a private limited company, the board must have at least one member, and if it has fewer than three members, at least one deputy is required.
Under the Swedish Companies Act, the board is responsible for keeping, retaining and making the share ledger available. It remains responsible even when an accounting firm, for example, does the practical work.

A board member is a person who sits on a limited company's board of directors.
