A blank transfer (Swedish: blancoöverlåtelse) means the holder of a document, such as a share certificate, signs a transfer without stating to whom it is made. It is also called a transfer in blank. The document can then be passed on without a new endorsement.
Even after a blank transfer, the new owner must be entered in the share ledger to exercise shareholder rights against the company. Blank transfers are also used in a pledge of shares, where the pledgee takes possession of the certificate.

A share certificate is written proof that a person owns certain shares in a limited company.
